HARLAN — Edna May Jessen, daughter of John J. and Anna K. (Larsen) Peterson, was born July 3, 1909, in Jacksonville. She was a lifelong resident of the Harlan area, and was educated in country schools near Jacksonville. In 1929, she married Jacob Christensen. The couple farmed in the Corley and Harlan area.

In 1943, in Harlan, she married Thomas Jessen. They lived in Kimballton until 1957, when they moved to Harlan. Thomas died in 1970. She was a school bus driver for Harlan schools for 13 years, from 1958-71. She was also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. She died May 7, 1993, at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, at age 83 years, ten months and four days.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Thomas; one sister, Helen; three step-sons, Merlyn Jessen, Donald Jessen, and James Jessen; and two great-grandchildren. Survivors include one son, Donavon Christensen of Denver, CO.; two daughters, LaDeane Johnson of Exira; and LaVonne Christensen of Kimballton; one sister, Lena Nielsen of Kimballton;
2 stepdaughters, Monica Pierce of Sauk Rapids, MM.; and Linda Carlisle of Omaha, NE.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; step-grandchildren; and step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held May 10, 1993 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan with the Rev. Jack Kahle officiating. Casket Bearers were Steven Christensen, Dan Christensen, Keith Christensen, Gary Johnson, Jerry Johnson, and Curtis Christensen. Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran cemetery, Kimballton. Arrangements by Burmeister Funeral Home.
