Kirsten Petersen was born in Alborg, Hjorring, Denmark, the daughter of _____ Petersen and Anna Marie Thompson Petersen. She had a younger brother, Peter, and another sister or brother (unknown). Her father died ____ . Her mother, Anna Marie, then married Jacob Jacobsen. This union had three daughters: Celia, Christine "Stena", and Petraya. When Mr. Jacobsen died, Peter Petersen assumed the paternal role and the family took the name Petersen, although the three girls maintained their legal surname as Jacobsen.
Kirsten married J. P. Jensen(in Denmark). They first lived in Whiting, Kansas.
In 1884, Kirsten's mother and three step-sisters came to America and went to Whiting, Kansas. Kirsten and J. P. had eight children (6 girls & 2 boys): Mary, Anna, Jens P., Harry, Edna, Lela, Myrtle, Mae.
The family moved to a farm near Hardy, Nebraska.
