Emma Peters Hurley, 83, of Elizabethton, passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late John W. and Vennia Colbaugh Peters and was born in Carter County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death, by her husband, Glen "Buck" Hurley; son, John R. Hurley; and 14 brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Hurley was a member of New Liberty Freewill Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and working word puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter, Neta Schneibolk of Sandy Spring, MD; two sons, Ronnie Hurley and Greg Hurley and his wife Brenda all of Elizabethton; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; a special niece, Becky Peters Lay; sister, Reba Vines and her husband Jerry of Elizabethton; and a special friend and "sister", Addie Blevins of Elizabethton. Several other nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 pm Sunday, August 12, 2012, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with Rev. Bill Greer officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm prior to the service. You may also visit with the family at the residence at any other time.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday, August 13, 2012, in the Blevins Cemetery with Rev. Derl Curry officiating. Active pallbearers will be John Colbaugh, Justin Irick, Dylan Schneibolk, Cody Hurley, Michael Walsh and Tyler Walsh. Honorary pallbearers will be her great grandchildren, Dustin Hurley, Jordan Hongtong, Jackson Hongtong, Tyler Guinn, Adain Walsh, Jordan Collins and Charles Peters. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 AM Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
