An obituary published in the Herald and Review for Fred J. Perry, 87, of Shelbyville, states he had died January 29, 1996 in the Shelby Memorial Hospital. He was born July 17, 1908, in Okaw Township, Shelby County, the son of John and Jennie Fought Perry. He married Irene Vanmeter in 1928 in Racine, Wis. She preceded him in death in 1970. He then married Bernice Vanmeter. She preceded him in death in 1991. Surviving were his brothers, Lester and wife Edna of Shelbyville; Orie of Neoga; Floyd and wife Darlene of Bloomington; David and wife Kathy of Yuma, Ariz.; sisters, Pearl Hagan, Zelma Banning and Martha Butler and husband Pete, all of Shelbyville; brother-in-law, David Woodall of Shelbyville; stepdaughters, Roberta Taylor and husband Frank of Arizona; Jackie Broyles of Oklahoma; Patty Lorenzo of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, sister, Stella Woodall, and an infant brother. He worked for Ajax Tire and Rubber Co. in Racine, Wis., and then was employed by the New York Central Railroad for a short time. He then returned to Shelby County and started farming, which he continued until he retired from his farm in Westervelt two years ago.
