James N. Percival Sr., 71, of Armington, passed away at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday (March 18, 2015) in Armington.

James Neal Percival Sr. was born Oct. 16, 1943 in Champaign, the son of Ray E. and Eleanor Leaser Percival. He married Dixie Billington on June 27, 1965 in Armington. She survives.

He is also survived by his children, Derrick (Julia Schneider) Percival, Dionne (Andrew) Taylor and James Neal (Cinda) Percival Jr.; one brother, Larry (Emma) Percival; two sisters, Judy (Ron) Coomer and Sharon (Ed) Krefting and eight grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Harold Billington.

A 1961 graduate of Ganesha High School in Pomona, California, Jim served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965 as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. Jim retired from Caterpillar in Peoria after 30 years and then was employed by the Olympia School District as a janitor at Olympia North Elementary School. He was a member of United Automobile Workers No. 974 and a past commander of Armington American Legion Post No. 913.

He was a member of the Armington Christian Church, where he was called "the man with the golden voice." Jim served the church as both elder and emcee of the Fourth Friday Jamboree for many years. He and Dixie sang at many functions and also enjoyed square dancing.
