Azalee "Lene" Pentecost, a lifelong resident of Decatur, died peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Decatur General Hospital.
Lene was born to Floyd and Gracie Brown on May 11, 1920. What a beautiful woman she was, right up to her passing. She had a loving heart, quick wit, a fun loving sense of humor and a fiery temper. Always a hard worker, Lene retired from Huntsville Manufacturing after 30 years of service. She then went on to many years of assisting elderly persons in their homes, and helping other family members.
"Moma Lene," as she was known to her grandchildren, was the kind of grandparent that every child dreams of having. She kept us busy doing something all of the time. Trips out to the country and visiting with "kin" filled our childhood. The lessons learned; love and laughter that she brought to our lives are a precious gift that we cherish.
Family members want to acknowledge the exceptional care she received from Dr. Kirk Jackson, River City Nursing Home, Hospice of the Valley and the caregivers at Decatur General Hospital. Their collective wisdom and compassion guided us through the process of losing our beloved mother and grandmother. We request that memorial gifts go to the charity of your choice.
Her husband, CG Pentecost and godson, Tim Stone, preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband, Paul Mayhall; daughter, Barbara McCulloch (Ray) and son, Larry Pentecost; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 23, 2010, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home. Grandson, Pastor Michael McCulloch will preside over her funeral service at Roselawn Funeral Home on Sunday, January 24, 2010, at 2 p.m. Lene will be laid to rest beside her beloved CG in Pisgah Cemetery.
