MR. DARIEN V. COTTON PENNINGTON, age 83 of Memphis, TN was born on February 23, 1922 in Shell Lake, Arkansas, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at Baptist Memorial Hospital of Memphis. He was formerly employed with S.H. Lynch Company and then later became the co-owner of Sammons-Pennington Company which served the Tri State area for 50 years and was well known for his ability to remember the different models of particular machines and the parts that it required to make them operate. He was also known for his integrity of his work ethics and knowledge of the machines which he worked on. He was a disc jockey for the radio station in Heth, Arkansas and announced the beginning of World War II and served as a radar instructor during World War II in Corpus Christi, Texas and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Pennington was a member of the Whitehaven United Methodist Church for 54 years, a Shriner, a Mason and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary L. Pennington of the home; 1 daughter, Priscilla P. Jackson of Memphis; 1 son, Vernon Charles Pennington of Memphis; 6 grandsons, William Holland Brown III, Christopher Lee Brown, John Paul Pennington, Adam Glenn Jackson, Blake Andrew Jackson and Matthew Darien Jackson; 1 granddaughter, Hannah Michael Craig; 2 great granddaughters, Ashton Taylor Brown and Camryn Nicole Brown; 1 sister in-law, Barbara Mittlebronn; 3 nieces and 2 nephews. Visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home, Poplar from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2005. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Whitehaven United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Memphis Memory Gardens.
