Enlisted on 2/4/1863 at Floyd County, VA, he was mustered into "F" Co. VA 8th Cavalry as a Private.
On rolls 10/31/1863.
POW, Knap's Valley, 1864; confined at Camp Chase, Ohio; Oath of Allegiance, released 1865.
In 1914, an 80 year-old widower living in Fayette, WVA., he applied for admittance into the Robert E. Lee Camp Soldier's Home, due to "old age". He was admitted in 10/1914; died there.
The 8th Cavalry Regiment was organized early in 1862 with nine companies but increased its number to eleven to July. Many of the men were recruited in Smyth, Nelson, Kanawha, and Tazewell counties.
