If this is the Samuel L. Peer that married Susannah Kanouse on 04 January 1845 in Morris County, NJ (birth years match), he couldn't have died before 1860, as he is in the 1860 census, but not the 1870. So he was at least 44 when he died. I cannot find Susan's grave. Since she lived at least until 1910 and did not remarry, her stone would presumably be legible.
