Charlotte J. Berger, age 60, of Rice Lake died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. She was born August 19, 1953, in Cumberland; the daughter of Arnold and Marilyn (Anderson) Peer.

After graduating from Cumberland High School in 1971, Char attended UW-Stout and graduated with her Bachelor's degree. She began her career in education at Neilsville High School, and after teaching there for three years, she moved to Rice Lake. She became a Dental Assistant at Lakeview Dental in Rice Lake, and it was while working there that she met her husband, Mark. They were married April 30, 1983 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Rice Lake. She then went on to work at the Jennie-O Turkey Store in Barron. She took the experience she had gained in these positions, and returned to teaching for the next 14 years; first at the Rice Lake High School and later at the Middle School, taking pride in teaching Family and Consumer Education before retiring in 2011.

Exercise was a part of Char's daily life, with exercise classes and walking her dog Mollie for 3-5 miles per day. Among her many interests were world traveling, scrapbooking, quilting, boating, and sharing a glass of wine with friends. Char was an excellent cook, and was an avid follower of the Rice Lake Warriors, Haugen Knights baseball and the St. Norbert College Green Knights football team, where their son Rob had been Quarterback and Punter.

Char Berger is survived by her husband, Mark and their son Rob, both of Rice Lake; her parents: Arnold and Marilyn Peer, Cumberland; 1 sister: Chris (Roy) Wetzel, Rice Lake; 1 brother: Randy Peer, Cumberland; her sister-in-law Deborah (Cedric) Michalak, Nashotah, WI; 2 nieces: Amy Sturino and Heather (John) Michalak; 2 nephews: Alonzo Sturino and Jason (Alexis) Michalak; and her beloved dog, Mollie, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her nephew Paul Sturino, her grandparents, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Wilma Berger.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Rice Lake, with Rev. Jim Altman officiating. Interment will be in Nora Cemetery in Rice Lake. Friends may call Friday, October 25 from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the church, and Saturday at the church from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m.
