Joann Peck-Gooden was born November 16, 1935, to John Peck and Margaret L. Colbert in North Vernon, Indiana. She departed this life to be with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior on Monday, April 25, 2011.
She was a longtime member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Columbus, where all her children attended school. She attended Heritage Day Health Center located in John Gerlach Center for Senior Health and recently at Pickerington Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Peck; her husband, Bennie M. Gooden; a son, Jeffrey C. Gooden; and her sister and brother-in-law, Marva and Joe Brannon.
She is survived by children, Stephini E. Jefferson, of Columbus, OH, and LaVerne "Candy" Gooden of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Shanelle Staggers, Clinton David Jones, Christopher Shipley and Bricklyn Shipley; great-grandchildren, Shamaye Dixon, of Columbus, OH, Myles Shipley, Noah Shipley, Stephany Shipley, Demetrius Shipley, Dominque Shipley and Braylan Shipley, all of Columbus, IN; a sister, Harriette, of Columbus, OH; and a host of other relatives and friends including good friend, Ray Handley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2011, in the chapel of Diehl-Whittaker Funeral Service, 720 E. Long Street, Columbus, OH, where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the start of services. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Rest Haven Cemetery, 650 S. Eisenhower Drive, Edinburgh, Indiana.
