She was a retired Blount County school teacher. Born in Madisonville, Tenn., Judith attended Hiwassee College and graduated from Tennessee College for Women in Murfreesboro, Tenn. As a young woman, she was known for being a vocalist and pianist. She was an avid reader and worker of crossword puzzles, a senior member of Mary Blount Chapter of DAR, and longtime member of Broadway United Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by parents, Attorney General T.W. Peace and wife Mary; daughter, Frances Knoll Lail; dear husband of 60 years, Edward Knoll; beloved pet boxer, Loxie Belle.
Survivors include devoted caregivers, Linda Darnell, Romona Darnell, and Kim Ross; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Lamar Russell of Cape Canaveral, Fla,; grandchildren, Eddie and Traci Lail, Beth and Bryan Brown of Maryville, Mary Ruth and Michael Kearney of Brookhaven, Ga, Matthew Russell of Mesa, Ark.; great-grandchildren, Courtney Ann Brown, Henry Philip "Hank" Brown, Charlie ReNee "Tiddlywinks" Lail; nieces, Mary Gail Jackson and Buna Hofferbert, both of Knoxville.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Broadway United Methodist Church with Rev. Laura Rasor officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Smith Trinity Chapel.
