She was born Feb. 25, 1933, at Jerusalem to Ezra "Bud" and Ethel Mooney Elkins.
Opal was a lifelong member of the Hector Freewill Baptist Church, where she served as secretary for many years. She worked alongside her husband, Bill, for 54 years on their family farm. Opal will always be remembered as the sweetest woman everyone knew, and she loved all of her family dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman Virgil "Bill" Patton; one sister, Juanita Graves; and one brother, Leamon Elkins.
Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Hudson of Hector and Linda Clarke of Russellville; one brother, Loyd Elkins Sr., of Hattieville; two sisters, Mary Hillis of Appleton, and Audrey Hillis and husband, Don, of Hattieville; two grandchildren, Trent Hudson of Hector and Courtney Clarke of Russellville; one sister-in-law, Wanda Wisdom and husband, Max, of Hector; and many nieces, nephews and great and grand nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at the Hector Freewill Baptist Church officiated by the Revs. Jerry Patton and the Charles King. Burial will follow in Boiling Springs Cemetery under the direction of Broussard Funeral Home of Russellville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.
A special thanks to her caregivers, Sandra Turney, Missy Turney, Sharon Parrish and the Arkansas Hospice Nurses and Staff.
Pallbearers are Loyd Elkins Jr., Gary Elkins, Victor Patton, Tony Patton, Ricky Wisdom and Sam Hudson.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Arkansas Hospice, 2405 E. Parkway Suite 3, Russellville, AR 72802.
