Nancy taught her son Bert's mother-in-law Lucy Perkins how to read. Nancy lived with her grandson Fred and his family the last several years of her life and while there, taught her great-grandson Clifford to read also. He read so well when he started school that his teacher asked him to read for the visiting superintendant. When Nancy became ill, she moved in with her daughter Effie Anderson and her family, in Tahlequah, and died while in their care.

HULBERT RESIDENT DIES AT 80

Mrs. Nancy Jane Cooper of Hulbert, a resident of Cherokee County for 37 years and well known here (Wagoner), died Tuesday, August 29, 1949, in the home of her daughter in Tahlequah.

Mrs. Cooper was 80 years, 8 months and 4 days old at the time of her death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Lost City School with burial in Lost City Cemetery under the direction of the Green Funeral Home of Wagoner.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Effie Anderson of Tahlequah; a sister, three brothers, 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
