Born Aug. 21, 1927, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Andrew Paterno and Angela Camaratta Paterno.
Lena was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Clear Spring. She retired as an office manager of the Department of Assessments and Taxation for the State of Maryland in 1987. She was a 1945 graduate of Eastern High School in Washington, D.C., and a member of the Clear Spring Homemakers Club, where she served as treasurer. She was also a member of St. Michaels Renew Group.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Erven Mills of Clear Spring; a son, Randall W. Mills and his wife Barb of Clear Spring; a grandson, her "Pride," David W. Mills and wife Tara; a granddaughter, her "Joy," Theresa J. Mills; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Spadoni, and two brothers, Salvatore Paterno and Sando Paterno.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2009, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hagerstown with Monsignor Alfred Smith celebrant. The family will receive friends at the Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. with prayers offered at 7:30 p.m. For the convenience of friends, you may visit the funeral home after 1 p.m.
Burial will be held in the Little Rose Hill Cemetery in Clear Spring.
