Naomi G. "Noni" Filer, 81, Altoona, died unexpectedly Thursday morning at her residence.
She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late William and Marie (Huber) Parks. After the death of her mother, Naomi was raised by her father and stepmother, Edna (Bowman) Parks. She married Ralph V. Filer on June 28, 1952, at Salem Lutheran Church, Pinecroft, Antis Township, and he preceded her in death Jan. 17, 2004.
Surviving are two daughters: Connie Burgmeier and husband, Michael, of Juniata and Dianne Irvin of Hanover; three grandchildren: Nicole Bauman and husband, John, Mike Burgmeier and fiancee, Jess Semko, and Brad Irvin; two great-grandchildren: Johnny and Nicholas Bauman; a special friend, Nick Corrado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the last survivor of the William W. Parks family of Pinecroft.
Naomi was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. She formerly had been employed by Price's Poultry Farm, McConahy's Store, Altoona Shoe Factory, Bellmeade Manor and Sylvania. She was an avid bingo and card player, and she also enjoyed crocheting.
Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2012, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona (www.myerssomersfuneralhome.com), where a time of sharing for family and friends will be held at 3 p.m. Interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602, or to the charity of your choice.
