MONTE VISTA Dorothy M. [Heersink] Parker, 92 died on Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Juniper Village. Dorothy was born March 19, 1919 in Alamosa, Colo. to Henry and Matilda Terpstra.

Dorothy married the love of her life, Anton Heersink, on February 22, 1939. From this union were born 16 children. Dorothy was a homemaker. She was a member of the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church and was involved in the Ladies Aid Society and other activities in the church. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, gardening, fishing, the outdoors, traveling, singing, and playing the organ. Raising her 16 children was the most important thing to Dorothy and she loved her family and friends very much. Dorothy had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a smile on her face.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her first husband, Anton Heersink in 1973 and by her second husband, Wayne Parker in 1995. Also preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, two brothers, one grandson and two sons-in-law.

Dorothy is survived by her children Arlene [Andy] Veenstra of Ellsworth, Mich., Myron Heersink of Denver, Gale [Ruby] Heersink of Monte Vista, Allen [Agnes] Heersink of Tyler, Texas, Charlotte [Rudy] Garcia of Raleigh, N.C., Robert Heersink of Chandler, Ariz., Leland [JoAnne] Heersink of Cotopaxi, Colo., Shirley Cameron of Converse, Texas, Lorraine [Mike] Stinocher of Bettendorf, Iowa, Dwight [Bobbie] Heersink of Monte Vista, Cynthia McCormick of Alamosa, Linda Heersink of Aurora, Colo., Joyce [Ken] Wright of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary [John] Yergert of La Junta, Colo., Norma [Ray] Hixon of Parker, Colo., and Loren [Donna] Heersink of Pine, Colo., brother Marvin [Loma] Terpstra of Colorado Springs, sister Ruth Heersink of Alamosa, Sister-in-law June Terpstra of Alamosa, 30 grand children, 31 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, July 1, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Alamosa Christian Reformed Church, 1861 County Road 10 South in the Waverly District followed by graveside services at the Alamosa Cemetery.
