Beloved husband, father and grandfather, died in Ruidoso, NM, on August 14, 2003, at the age of 84. Ben Parker, Colonel (Retired) United States Air Force, proudly and faithfully served his country for 26 years.

He began his service in 1940 flying biplanes with the Army Air Corps. He flew fighters in the Philippines and transports in the Aleutian Islands during World War II, and in the Korean War. For three years he was an instructor at the Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Air Command and Staff School for the Brazilian Air Force.

His career culminated as the commander of the 42nd Space Surveillance Squadron, at NORAD, Colorado Springs. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Ben Parker served in the Civil Service for 15 years in various capacities. He was currently retired and living in Alto, NM.

Colonel Parker is survived by his wife Ruth Parker; his three children Steven Parker of Virginia, Cathy and her husband Richard Wagener of California, and Terry and her husband Dennis Swanson of Michigan, and his three grandchildren Erica Wagener, Jeff Wagener, and Lindsey Parker; and his brother Irving Parker of Palm Springs.

Ben Parker was born in San Diego, Calif. on March 30, 1919. His final resting place will be at Fort Rosecrans, San Diego where he will be interred with full military honors later this year. In lieu of flowers the family requests participation in the following charity: The Air Force Aid Society, Inc. at Suite 202 1745 Jefferson Davis Highway Arlington, VA 22202, or a contribution to a charity of your choice.
