There is a fragment of the 1890 Federal Census for Gaston County, NC that survived, and to the good fortune of my family Salina Hellen and her family are listed on the page. She and George were living in the South Point Township on the 7th of July that year when the census taker came around. George was a weaver in the local cotton mill. and Hellen was a homemaker who cared for their three children. The records indicate she had borne 4 children and 3 survived.
The oldest was a 7 year-old daughter named Belle who does not appear on the 1900 census. The youngest was a 3 year-old son whose name appears to be Many J who also is missing from the 1900 census records where the family appears back in Cleveland County, NC, in the Fallston area. The 1900 records indicate Hellen has now had 6 children but only three survive so we must conclude that little Belle and her baby brother Many did not survive until 1900. Their burial sites are unknown at this time.
