Marilyn Park Myers, 74, quietly passed away on May 1, 2013 in the presence of loved ones in Salt Lake City, UT. She was born on November 26, 1938 in Idaho Falls, Idaho and lived in Shelley, Idaho as a child. She was the second daughter and fifth child of William Densell Park and Ardella Laird Park. Three more siblings were later added to this family. When Marilyn was a teenager she contracted juvenile arthritis. In order to make life easier for her, the family moved to Mesa, Arizona. While in Arizona she completed high school, went on to attend Arizona State University where she obtained a bachelors degree in Education.
While at ASU, she began corresponding with a roommate of her brothers Bill and Bob at Cornell. Their correspondence blossomed into love and she married George Scott Myers Jr. on July 7, 1961 in the Mesa, Arizona Temple. Marilyn joined George in Ithaca, NY where she taught school and later gave birth to Sharyl. When George graduated, they moved to Flemington, NJ where they added Scott, Gordon, James and Suzi to their growing family. They moved to Alamosa, CO in 1970 to help with the Myers' family business and while there George Park was born. In 1974, they moved to Clovis, CA where Janice was born. In 1978, George and Marilyn moved to Hanford, CA where Mari Lyn was born and they settled down to raise their eight children. Marilyn supplemented the family income by substitute teaching, selling quiet book patterns at Mormon Handicraft and being creative with the resources she had. In 1984, Marilyn separated from George and moved to Orem, UT to be near her brothers. George and Marilyn later divorced in 1986. In Orem, she worked as a teacher for the handicapped. In her later years, Marilyn lived with Mari in Salt Lake City, UT.
Although beset with debilitating arthritis, Marilyn was an example of perseverance and faith. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions in the Primary and Relief Society. Marilyn especially enjoyed family history and was very proud of her Willie Handcart Company ancestors. She passed the love for their stories to her children, grandchildren and other family members. She enjoyed math and opened her home to tutoring neighborhood children. She had a fondness for puzzles and would find new ones to share with her grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by her eight children, Sharyl (Rob) Adamson, Salt Lake City, UT; Scott (Marianne) Myers, Williston, VT; Dr. Gordon (Carolyn) Myers, Ventura, CA; James (Laura) Myers, Laton, CA; Suzi (Garry) Wickerd, Clara City, MN; George (Danielle) Myers, South Jordan, UT; Major (S) Janice (Mylan) McDowell USAF, Okinawa, Japan; and Mari Myers, Salt Lake City, UT; six siblings, Bill Park, Bob Park, Jim Park, Doug Park, Bonnie Seegmiller and Sharyn Crouch; and 21 grandchildren.
