Visitation and viewing will be from 9 am. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, June 28 at Chaney Walters Funeral Home. A graveside funeral service will at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 28 at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, with the Rev. T.L. Phillips officiating.
Mrs. Brooks was born on Sept. 3, 1914 to Muryl and Edith (Groves) Palmer in Carmen, Okla.
After living briefly in Oklahoma and Denver, she moved to Sterling as a young girl. She attended Sterling schools, grad uating from Logan County High School.
She married Lowell "Fat" Brooks on Oct. 20, 1933 in Sidney, Neb. Together they owned and operated Brooks transportation, a trucking company headquartered in Sterling for many years.She moved to Lafayette in 1980.
She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Business and Profes sional Women, Drove No. 213 Patriotic Order of the Does, and was active in the Democratic Party.
Mrs. Brooks is survived by her two sons, Jack Brooks of Sterling, Va., and Tom Brooks of Manassas, Va.; two daughters, Barbara Ruff of Denver, and Terri Melville of Boulder; two brothers, Richard Palmer of Long Beach, Calif., and Robert Palmer of St. Louis, Mo.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on June 24, 1963; a sister, Marjean Allen; and a son, Richard Brooks.
