Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until March 15, 1946

Son of Roy & Ruth Palmer who resided in Chemung County, New York.

Donald served as a Technical Sergeant & Radio Operator / Gunner on B-24J #44-40947, 72nd Bomber Squadron, 5th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Chemung County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on April 3, 1942 in Elmira, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Sales clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #44-40947 took off from Pitu Airfield (APO 719) on Morotai, North Maluku Province, Indonesia on an armed search for enemy shipping off Borneo. After take off, nothing was ever heard from the bomber again. It is unknown if this B-24 was lost due to bad weather, mechanical failure or enemy action.

Donald was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
