Angelina Brusco, formerly of Yonkers, NY, entered eternal rest on June 23, 2012 at the age of 96. She was born on September 4, 1915 in Fiumefreddo, Italy to the late Luigi and Teresina Chilelli Pagnotta. She married the late Fiore Brusco in Italy on February 22, 1934. As one of the original "war brides", she arrived in the United States via the USAT Thomas H. Barry in 1946. She lived in New York City until 1956 where she moved to Yonkers, NY, and then to New Canaan, CT.
Angelina was predeceased by her brothers Francesco and Vincent, and her sisters Maria and Rosina. She is also predeceased by her son John and daughter Gloria Brusco Flanagan. She is survived by her son Louis (Angela) Brusco of Yonkers, NY, and daughter Teresa (Michael) Downey of New Canaan, CT. She is also survived by a sister, Ida Zimbaro of New York City, and a daughter-in-law, Elvira Brusco of Scarsdale, NY, and a son-in-law, Edward Flanagan of New Canaan, CT. She will be fondly remembered by Tona and Raymond Moore and Tracee Lutes of Bloomington, Indiana.
Angelina was affectionately known as "Nonni" and was cherished by ten grandchildren - Anthony Brusco of Scarsdale, NY, Dr. Louis Brusco Jr. of Yonkers, Michael (Dawn) Brusco of Stamford, CT, Angela (Joseph) Franco of Franklin Lakes, NJ, Patricia (Joseph) Annunziata of Eastchester, NY, Maria (Christopher) Jost of Hawthorne, NY, Edward (Andrea) Flanagan Jr. of Lehigh Acres, FL, Lori (James) Vincent of Pacific Palisades, CA, John Downey of New York City, and Sandra (Michael) Campisi of New Canaan, CT.
She was also adored by 18 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Everyone loved (and tried to copy) her cooking and every September looked forward to her "canning day" where she made countless jars of tomato sauce. She was legendary for her daily calls to her children and grandchildren making sure all of them were safe at home every night.
