On the evening of December 1, 2007, God opened the doors for Frances Virginia Owens Blankenship, of Roanoke, surrounded by her family, to enter her mansion over the hilltop. She was born on May 10, 1923 to Joseph and Virgie Owens, who preceded her in death. Frances was a 1942 graduate of Jefferson High School. She was married to Grady W. Blankenship and together they had seven children. She is also preceded in death by their son, Earl L. Blankenship, one granddaughter and one greatgranddaughter. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Dennis and Myra and Leon and Lula; five daughters and their spouses, Peggy and Paul Patton, Connie and Don Persinger, Peggy Blankenship, Cindy and Roy Ketchum and Virginia Blankenship. Also surviving are eighteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren and three greatgreatgrandchildren; one sister, Hazel and Jack Woods; two brothers, Joe and Jean Owens, Ray and Sylvia Owens; special sister-in-law, Joanna Bryant; special aunt, Allie Hartman; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Frances was a charter member of the New Hope Christian Church and faithfully attended the Waverly Place Baptist Church, serving as secretary of the Dorcas Sunday School Class. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Reid Ness and the Rev. Charles Hoffler officiating. The interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, December 3, 2007 at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
