Pearl Josephine Bentley, of Rainier, passed away August 4, 2005 at St. John Medical Center at the age of 89. She was born September 24, 1915 in Twin Valley, Minnesota, the daughter of Jennie (Knutsen) and Peder Otterson. She was baptized into the Lutheran Church in Twin Valley, Minnesota. Pearl graduated from high school and on March 5, 1938,

married Onen L. Bentley . He preceded her in death on March 8, 1976. Pearl and Onen moved to Rainier in 1940, where he worked for the Rainier Creamery. Pearl was a homemaker until she went to work as a grocery clerk from 1954-1986.Pearl had a special talent for making traditional Norwegian pastries and candies, especially during the holiday season. These treats will be missed by all who received them. Her lovely homemade gifts will also be missed. She took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens, spending many hours tending them. Pearl was an avid Portland Trail Blazer Fan. She was a long-time member of the Rebekah Lodge, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and Rachel Circle. Pearl is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne & Duane Bernard of Rainier and Colleen & Alex Gottwig of Vancouver; son and daughter-in-law, Lowell & Teresa Bentley of Rainier; six grandchildren, Kathy & husband, Jim Usher, Carma & husband, Bill Harrel, Dave & wife, Renay Bernard, Dan & wife, Juanita Bernard all of Rainier, Joey & wife, Corinne Harbaugh and Curtis Harbaugh all of Vancouver; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold; and two sisters, Margaret & Mildred. A Private Family Service will take place at Green Mountain Cemetery in Rainier, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Onen. Family and friends are invited to take part in a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life to be held Thursday, August 11, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Wayne Duchow officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 2218 E. Kessler Blvd., Longview, WA 98632.Haakinson-Groulx Mortuary of Rainier is in charge of arrangements.
