Birth: 1860, Lithuania
Death: Mar. 20, 1947
Montreal
Quebec, Canada

Minnie lived in Jacobstadt Courland Russia, with her husband Pesach Abba and their 8 children. In 1902 Pesach Abba was shot in the stomach, while operating his taxi Carrage in Jacobstadt, by Russian Cossacks and died three days later in a hospital in Riga. Minnie sold and bartered fruit, vegetables and eggs, in the common market area in Jacobstadt, to provide for her family and with the little money she saved, she sent her oldest son Ralph, to North America in 1906. Ralph worked as a fruit merchant and pre paid the passage for his younger brother Louis to North America. Each of the remaining children worked and pre paid the passage for the next sibling to travel to North America. Since passage was unavailable during the war years of 1914-1918, Minnie and her second youngest child Lipa were the last to leave Latvia in 1923. Minnie and her son Lipa left from Danzig, Poland on the same day on separate ships! Minnie left on the SS Kovno and Lipa left on the SS Smolensk. They each arrived at Hull, England, three days later, on the same day at separate times and each took separate trains to Liverpool and arrived at the ship's dock at different times. Lipa had purchased a 3rd class ticket and Minnie had purchased a 2nd class class ticket. On April 21, 1923 Minnie and son Lipa left Liverpool, England bound for Montreal, Canada on a ship of the White Star-Dominion Line, the SS Canada. However, both Lipa and Minnie left the ship in Halifax, where they both passed a health inspection and cleared Canadian Immigration and then continued their trip by train to Montreal. All of Minnie's children, except Louis and Tillie, settled in Montreal Canada. Louis settled in Everett Massachusetts and Tillie settled in Vancouver, British Colombia. It took Minnie 18 years to get herself and all of her children out of Latvia. Pre deceased by husband Pesach Abba, sons: Louis, Ralph & Max, grandchildren Sara & Albert Marovitch. Survived by: Becky & Isadore Yetnikoff, Jennie & Sam Schacter, Tillie & Harry Brook, Cherna & Harry Kizner, Lipa & Esther Marovitch, 30 Grand Children and 63 Great Grand Children.
