OBITUARIES

Jean Olsen

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, at West Lawn Funeral Home in Eugene for Amerta "Jean" Olsen of Eugene, who died Nov. 30 of age-related causes. She was 82.

She was born June 30, 1926, in Eugene to Farmer and Edith Brabham Hale. She married Harold Olsen on May 19, 1946, in Noti.

She graduated from Elmira High School and worked for the California National Phone Company in Myrtle Creek for more than 20 years.

Survivors include three sons, Larry of Jasper, Dan of Junction City and Randy of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Kathryn Alexander of Hubbard; three siblings, Joann Johnson of Myrtle Creek, Janet Barnes of Coos Bay and James Hale of Eugene; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A grandson, Zane Hartel, died previously.

Arrangements by West Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home. Remembrances to Bridgeway House in Eugene for the Defeat Autism Now program.

Amerta Jean Olsen, age 82, died at her residence at Gateway Gardens in Eugene, Oregon, on November 30, 2008. She died of age related causes. She was born on June 30, 1926 in Eugene, Oregon. Her parents were Farmer C. and Edith M. (Brabham) Hale. She grew up on the Hale ranch west of Noti, where she helped her parents with the family dairy business. She graduated from Elmira High School in June of 1944. She married her high school sweetheart, Harold L. Olsen, on May 19, 1946. They had three sons and one daughter.

Jean worked for the C.P. Telephone Company in Myrtle Creek, Oregon for 20 years, retiring in 1986.

Jean had many hobbies, including needlework, puzzles and architectural design, but her passion was genealogy. She had spent several years gathering facts and photos documenting her family history.

Jean is survived by her husband Harold L. Olsen, of Eugene, Oregon. Other survivors include her children, Larry C. Olsen, Kathryn Alexander, Danny K. Olsen and Randy P. Olsen, ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her siblings, all of whom survive her, are Joann Johnson of Myrtle Creek, Janet Barnes of Coos Bay, and James Hale of Eugene, Oregon.

One infant grandson, Zane Hartel, preceded her in death in 1991.

Her memorial service will be held in the chapel in West Lawn Memorial Park on Saturday, December 6th at 1:00 p.m.
