Sylvia "Sindy" Lathrop, 76, of Midland, formerly of Gladwin, left her earthly home to arrive at her heavenly home on Saturday, April 7, 2012. Sindy was the oldest of six children and was born Oct. 3, 1935, in Racine, Wisc., the daughter of Claude and Nell Olmsted, who preceded her in death in 1994 and 2002.

Sylvia married Joseph Lathrop on June 20, 1958 in Wausau, Wisc., and they spent 54 wonderful years together. She was also the mother of three children and was blessed with 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She lived most of her life in Gladwin County and was a charter member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Gladwin. She spent many years with her husband serving as a missionary in Latin America and was employed as a social worker for Nursing & Rehabilitation center in Gladwin for 10 years.

Sylvia will always be remembered for her lovely personality, her Christian testimony, and her unusual beauty. The family wishes to thank the staff and management of the Pines Nursing Home in Gladwin for their tender care for the past few years.

Sylvia is survived by her husband, Joe Lathrop of Sanford; three children, Joseph Lathrop Jr., Lora Lee, and Peter Lathrop; her grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many close friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Dennis Olmsted.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 from 4-8 p.m., at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin. Memorial services will be conducted by Pastor Win Decker and Pastor Scott Bradstreet on Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Gladwin.
