Mrs. Nell Oller Clendenin, wife of George M. Clendenin, North Shore Drive, Lake Springfield, died at 8 a.m. Sunday at the residence following an illness of about two weeks. She is survived by her husband and one sister, Mrs. Louis E. Corrington, of Chicago, and a number of nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Clendenin was born in Washington, Pa., the daughter of the late Dr. William E. Oller, a well known minister of the Presbyterian denomination. She grew to young womanhood in Butler, Pa., during her father's pastorate in that city. Her education was completed at Wilson college at Chambersburg, Pa.
She was married to George M. Clendenin in Chicago June 1, 1921, and the couple took up their residence there which was their home until December 1943, when they moved to their new residence at Lake Springfield. Mr. Clendenin retired as publisher and general manager of The State Register in 1942 and since that time has been federal rent administrator for central Illinois district.
In the 26 years of her life in Springfield, Mrs. Clendenin, in addition to her social activities which made the Clendenin home a mecca for hospitality, had devoted much time and attention widely to church and civic enterprises. She was a member of First Presbyterian church and identified with Mary Lawrence circle of Kings Daughters and a number of other organizations.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday. Interment will be in the Clendenin family lot at Oak Ridge cemetery. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL 6-23-1947
