She departed this earthly life on March 8, 2013. Better known as "Renee," she moved to SC with her sisters, Michelle and Karen, at the age of 7 years old. She was raised by her aunt Betty Odom Lowe and late aunt Dorothy Odom Alston. As a child, Renee, her sisters, and cousins enjoyed spending their summer with their late Aunt Julia Davis in Lexington and at their family lake house. Renee enjoyed singing on the youth choir at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Renee attended Brookland-Cayce High School in Cayce, where she excelled in the Army ROTC. After graduation, she attended SC State College and Midlands Technical School and majored in Nursing. Renee enlisted in the Army in 1986 and retired in October 2012. Renee was a great listener, mother, sister, friend, mentor and a praying woman. Any time you would see her, she always had a smile on her face, no matter how she was feeling. Renee was a humble person and a STRONG woman of God. Her belief in God was very important to her, and she always wanted to make sure everyone she came in contact with had a relationship with Christ. She would always talk about her two sons, Larry and Andre. When asked by many, how can you make it through multiple deployments, she would always say, "God is with me." Renee believed in family, and even when being in the military kept her stationed in different places, she would always make sure the family knew she was okay. When home, she always made time to visit or call her family. She treated every one she knew as if they were a part of her family, even going so far as to support many of her children's friends like they were her own when they fell on hard times. She was always there to lend a helping hand or provide words of advice. Renee enjoyed going to Myrtle Beach, when she had the chance. She loved to ride on the most exciting rides. Renee loved eating spicy and exotic foods. She enjoyed spending time with all of her nieces and nephews and always made sure they had a present on Christmas. She was a virtuous woman, who lived what she preached and always kept her word. She instilled in her children good morals and always encouraged others to do what was right. She was preceded in death by her parents, Izell Odom and Betty Patrick. Renee moved to Augusta, GA, in July 2012, and her family was able to spend a lot time with her, which included going back to NY this past summer to spend time with relatives she had not seen since leaving NY as a child. The family also spent Thanksgiving at Renee's home in Augusta, and it was the best Thanksgiving in memory. Renee leaves to cherish her life, sons whom she loved so very much, Larry K. Mitchell, Jr. and Isaiah "Andre" Odom of SC; two sisters, Michelle (Darrell) Good of Cayce, SC and Karen (Willie) Tucker of Lexington, SC. One great-aunt, Alice Davis of Cayce, SC.
