Dora was the daughter of German immigrants August Gottlieb Obenland and Dorothea Thies. She was born on September 15, 1897 in Clay Center, Kansas.

Dora had three brothers: Oscar, Joseph, and George.

On 19 Nov. 1919, Dora married Richard August Brueggemann. The wedding took place in the parsonage of the German Lutheran Church in town with Rev. H. H. Fleckenstein officiating. During the 1920 Census, they were living at 903 Lincoln Ave, in Clay Center. This is a home that they owned. Richard's occupation was a bookkeeper at a bank.

In the 1930 Census, Dora and Richard were still living at the home on Lincoln Ave. The house was worth $4,000. By then, Richard was an assistant cashier at the bank. The 1930 Census also lists the couple's two children, twin girls named Dorothy Orene and Dora Marcene.

According to the Social Security Death Index, Richard passed away in August, 1983. Dora passed away just about a year later in May, 1984. According to the Social Security Death Index, her last residence was in Great Bend, Barton County, Kansas.
