DOROTHY LINSLEY OATES, 73, died May 19, 2002. She was born September 5, 1928, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Edward and Mary Adelia Linsley. The youngest of four siblings, Dottie was graduated in 1949 from Mercy Central School of Nursing and became a Red Cross disaster nurse. At 22 she became head nurse of the polio division at St. Mary's Hospital in Jacksonville, Texas, where she met her beloved husband, Dr. James Roscoe Oates, who preceded her in death in 1985. She is survived by three children: Linsey Ann Oates, of Bryan, Texas; Susan Oates Davis, of Brooklyn, New York; and Sarah Oates Shults, of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter in 1981. Dottie had a fulfilling career in industrial nursing, retiring in 1984. She also was a gourmet cook and will be remembered for her wonderful parties and those she catered for friends.
