Elois married Thomas "Bubba" E. Oakes, Sr. in Memphis, TN on Mar. 13, 1953. The were parents of four: Thomas, Jr. Timothy Oakes, Tami Oakes Buksa, and Terry Oakes. These survive as do two beloved aunts: Carrie Hale of E. Prairie, MO and Betty Armstrong of Nesbit, MO; and three grandchildren.
Elois was a dedicated member of Hazel Crest United Methodist church and had been co-chair of the Food Pantry for the last six years. She had retired from K-Mart and had volunteered for many years at Advocate-South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest. She had also been an election judge for decades.
