Jean LaVerne Garland O'Neil passed away December 25, 2010 after her courageous journey through Alzheimer's.

She was loved and admired by many for her charm, wit, beauty and intelligence. She loved supporting the economy through Mastercard and Visa. She was also completely enamored with ice cream. Jean will join her late husband, M. G. O'Neil, to continue their love story and probably rearrange the dishwasher together.

She was born in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. on Jan. 2, 1929 to Porter Funkhouser and Irene Garland. She adored her grandmother, who was blind, but was able to do so many things despite her disability. This left a lasting impression on Jean. Jean's late brother Glenn had a paper route, but it was frequently Jean who did the delivering. Her younger brother Richard always made her laugh with his opening line of ``That's Grim...!'

Jean worked many jobs throughout her life and made the most of them: from taking tickets at the roller-skating rink, so she could skate for free; to secretarial work so she could buy her mother a winter coat; to an executive secretary at McNeil Akron where she served on the Board of Directors, so she could support herself and her daughter, Patricia.

Jean married M.G. O'Neil. They shared a beautiful life together full of friends, golf, charitable works, and most importantly children; between the two of them they loved and cared for 17. Jean and Jerry lived in both Akron, Ohio and Jupiter, Fla. where good friends, good food and laughter was the constant theme throughout their lives.

Jean was blessed with many friends in her life that she loved dearly, too many to mention, but these deserve special recognition - the late James Regallis and Margaret ``Peg' Regallis; Heidi Fuhrer; and her best friend ever, Kate Hamlin.

She will be missed for all the above, be missed by many - but missed mostly for her love.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Patricia Bowman of Jupiter, Fla.; her beloved granddaughter, Caroline Jean Bowman of Washington, DC; the late Glenn and Donna Garland; her brother, Richard and Wanda Garland of Wagontown, Pa.; her stepchildren, Cynthia Thoman of Denver, Colo., Terry and Margaret Bowman of Canton, Ohio; her stepchildren, Jeff O'Neil, Calif, Kell and Kathy O'Neil, of Akron, Greg O'Neil, of Vermont, Shawn and Lucy O'Neil of Akron, Julie O'Neil and Rod Adkins of Akron, Nancy and Sean O'Connor of Akron, Susie and Tom Adgate of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Karen and Fred Macrae of Arizona, Debbie Cook and the late Robert Linton of Akron, Jan Cook of Akron, Danny and Alice Cook of Denver, Colo., Kevin and Katarina Cook of Akron and Beth Ann Cook of Akron. She is survived by two nieces; two nephews and 17 grandchildren.

Jean's family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Gerald O'Connor, as well as the staff at Hospice at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center for all the care they provided Jean. Thank You.

Cremation has taken place.
