Norma McLellan passed away at the General Marine Hospital, Collingwood, Ont., on April 22, 1999. Though having had ailing health for some time, she was diagnosed with cancer a mere five weeks before her death. She faced the news with bravity and though she was able to remain at home where she was cared for by her doting husband and daughters, she succombed to her death thirty-six hours after being admitted to the hospital. Her daughter Marcia and granddaughter Laurie were with her. Norma was born in Sutton, Que., on October 9th, 1923. She was the eldest daughter of the late George Norton and Ruby Westover. On August 19th, 1942, whe was united in marriage to Donald James McLellan of South Stukely, Que. They were wed in the Anglican Church in Windsor MIlls, Que. From this union, she was blessed with two daughters, Marcia and Carol, who blessed her with five grandchildren, Laurie, Kent, Todd (Danforth), and Janet and Rhonda (Peasley). Norma and her husband Don lived in various towns of the Eastern Townships, including Bromptonville, Beebe, Lennoxville and Waterloo, before moving to Brampton, Ontario in 1960. At the time of her death, she was living in Wasaga Beach, Ontario. After retirement, she and Don spent their winters in Florida, where they met many friends. Norma became interested in many crafts and took lessons to improve on them during these months. (To mention a few, her necklaces, placemats and beautiful afghans.) She became known for her beautiful, time-consuming pictures of flowers, birds, etc., which required layers and layers of fabric to get the "perfect effect", and give the birds the "feathered" effect. Norma loved her plants and flowers and took great pleasure in caring for them. She loved a sunny day and never took any of God's beauty and creation for granted. She has three brothers and two sisters. Two brothers predeceased her, Douglas, Sept. 5th, 1997 and Errol, May 11, 1998. Her sisters Agnes Henderson of Kitchener, Ont., and Barbara Harvey of Dunham, Que., and brother George of Kitchener, Ont., Arlene, Cambridge,Ont., Celia and her husband (Mr. & Mrs.Gamache), Waterloo, Que., will sorely feel their loss, as well as her husband, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends. The funeral service was held Saturday, April 23rd at the Fawcett Funeral Home, Collingwood, Ont., conducted by Rev. Jim Seagram of the Collingwood and Wasaga Anglican Churches, who spoke conforting words. Quiet organ music was played prior to the service. Laurie Danforth gave a beautiful tribute as she spoke of her dearly departed grandmother's "incredible inner strength and will-power and her great concern for the well-being of all those she loved." She then read a favorite prayer of the deceased, "St. Francis of Assisi." Barbara, Norma's youngest sister read the scripture reading from Revelations Chap. 21. Her eldest daughter, Marcia, read the 23rd Psalm. Two favorite hymns, " The Old Rugged Cross" and " Amazing Grace "were sung. The love and esteem felt for my sister by family and friends was evident by the ninteen beautiful arrangemants of flowers and many donations to the Cancer Society given in her memory, and the great distance travelled by many who attended, including nephews Rick, Robin and Brian McLellan, Celia and Curley Gamache, Johanne Martin, Barbara and Junior Harvey from the Eastern Townships as well as Oshawa, Hamilton, Kitchener, London and Brampton, Ontario and surrounding local areas. Friends and family members are invited to a Memorial Service at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Court St., Waterloo, Que., on Sat., May 22nd at 2:00 p.m.. Interment of her ashes will be in the South Stukely Cemetery following the service, at which Rev. Wilmur Davidson will preside. I watched the sun begin its arc across the sky I chatted with a friend I dreamed an afternoon away I saw the sky turn pink and kiss the sun good-bye Ah! this is a lovely day. My sister will never be forgotten, but the sunshine will forever bring special memories of her. Barbara E. Harvey
