Marguerite Agnes Cancilla, 90, of Melbourne Place, formerly of 965 North Street, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on November 25, 1920, a daughter of John and B. Agnes Durkin Norton, she was a 1938 graduate of Pittsfield High School and of the former Pittsfield Secretarial School.
Primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Cancilla had been employed by General Electric Company during World War II. She had also worked for Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, and for The Berkshire Eagle in the Circulation Department. She had been a communicant of St. Charles Church. She enjoyed quilting and braiding rugs, as well as hiking, golfing, and antiquing.
Her husband, Joseph E. Cancilla, Sr., whom she married on May 20, 1944 in Sacred Heart Church, died April 21, 2003.
Mrs. Cancilla is survived by three sons, Joseph E. Cancilla, Jr., and his wife, Linda, of Pittsfield, Mark W. Cancilla and his wife, Elaine, of Newton and Pittsfield, and Christopher J. Cancilla and his wife, Theresa, of Kenmore, New York; three daughters, Jane E. Simmons and her husband, John, of Pittsfield, Barbara A. Feller and her husband, Richard, of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Maryann C. McCarthy and her husband, Sean, of Seattle, Washington; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 8:15 a.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. in St. Charles Church, celebrated by Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
