Sarah Norris was born in North Carolina, October 13, 1833. She removed with her parents to
Buchanan county, Mo., in September, 1844. She was married to William Isaacs Nov. 12, 1850, and
to this union were born five children. Of these, Henry died when a small boy and Mrs. Emma Steel
died in June of this year. Those who survive her are Mrs. Amanda Brodhecker, living near Holton,
Charles residing in Holton, and Mrs. Lucy Mallory, ofLittle River, Calif In 1860 Mrs. Isaacs moved
with her husband to Jackson county, Kansas, and went through all the hardships of that noted year.
Sept. 14, 1863, William Isaacs departed this life. July 7, 1864, she was married to Michael Baker and
to this union were born six children, four of whom survive her. Two died in infancy. The living are
Mrs. Lizzie Clark, Little River, Calif, Mrs. Eva Artman, Denison, Mrs. Nellie Hamner, Atchison and
Mrs. Maud Gibson, Denison. Besides these she leaves 3 sisters and two brothers, Roof Norris and
Mrs. James Long, of Juda Springs, Kansas, Mrs. Edna Houser, Oxford, Kansas, Mrs. Mattie Lincoln,
of Wellington and Paul Norris, of St. Joseph. In the spring of 1882 she and her husband moved to
Arrington and ran the hotel during the boom days at that place, remaining there until the death of her
husband Jan. 13, 1899. In her early married life she united with the Baptist church at DeKalb, Mo.,
and brought her letter to Kansas with her and placed it in the M. E. church, South. She remained in
that church until 1906, when she placed her letter in the Birmingham M. E. church, where she was a
member until the time of her death, which was Oct. 16, 1909, aged 76 years and three days. The
funeral sermon was preached by her pastor, Rev. Mr. Hug, at New Harmony church, after which we
carried her out to the cemetery and laid her in the tomb beside her late husband ...
