Eloise R. Kees, 77, a resident of Hennis Care Centre at Dover, formerly of 452 East Canal Street,. died on Thursday morning, Aug. 14, .in the Hennis Care Centre.
Eloise was born in Newcomerstown on April 8, 1926, a daughter of the late Guy Harry and Jeanette Mirise Norman.
She was a graduate of Newcomerstown High School, class of 1945. Eloise then earned her registered nursing degree from the Alliance Hospital Nursing Program. She was a registered nurse for many years, including 12 years at Riverside Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Newcomerstown, 10 years at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital and a brief time at the Ohio State University Hospital. At the conclusion of World War II, she belonged to the Cadet Nurse Training Corps.
Eloise was a member of the Hartwood Church, Washington Township, Tuscawaras County, where she was a Sunday School teacher. She also belonged to the Tabitha Club, Washington Township, the Child Studies Club, Newcomerstown, and the Newcomerstown Garden Club. As a devoted wife, mother, and nurse, Eloise enjoyed her home, family, and career. She was dedicated to helping others through her nursing knowledge and abilities. Blessed with creative and artistic talent, Eloise expressed this in her decorating and needlework, gardening and cooking skills. Eloise was preceded in death by a sister, Madeline Waller, Newcomerstown, and all four brothers, Charles Norman, Columbus, and Willard Norman, Don Norman, and Wilbur Norman, all of Newcomerstown.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Daniel J. "Jack" Kees of Newcomerstown, whom she married on Jan. 9, 1949. She also leaves two daughters and their husbands, Victoria A. and James B. Toohey of Canton, and Elizabeth K. and Craig M. Buckholz of Hilliard. Also surviving are two sons and their wives, D. Craig and Lee Kees of Indianapolis, and David B. and Kimberly Kees of Bowling Green, Ky. Eloise is also survived by seven grandchildren, Dana and Brent Kees, Meagan and Caitlin Toohey, Jeremy Kees, and Grace and Claire Buchholz, and a great grandson, Jace Kees. There are also three brothers and two sisters, Gerald and Ethel Norman of Columbus, Roy and Marilyn Norman and John and Bonnie Norman of Newcomerstown, Marie DeLong of West Lafayette, and Bonnie (Mrs. Max) Hinton of Wooster, and two additional sisters in law, Norma J. Norman and Nancy Norman of Newcomerstown.
To honor Eloise's requests, her remains are to be cremated. No visiting hous will be observed. Memorial sevice will be held at 6 tonight (Saturday) at the Ourant Funeral Home and Newcomerstown. Rev. Tom Gruver will officiate. Friends will be received in the funeralhome tonight from 4 until the 6pm services. Burial of the ashes will follow at Union Cemetery, Port Washington, at a later date.
The family requests that memorials be made to Hennis Care Centre, 1720 Cross St., Dover, 44622 or the Alzheimer's Association, Ourant Funeral Home.
