Newberry - Laura Nichols Bowers, 98, widow of Roy C. Bowers, died Thursday, October 21, 2010, at her residence. Born September 29, 1912, in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Wade Hampton and Leila Daisy Butler Nichols. Mrs. Bowers had retired from Damon International. She was a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church where she was a member of S.A.L.T. and the Elsie P. Nichols Sunday School Class. Surviving are a son, Toney (Janice)Bowers of Newberry; a daughter, Peggy Mullins of Newberry; sisters, Nancy Long of Newberry, and Margaret Wilke of Georgia; a brother, Lewis (Norma) Nichols of Mt. Pleasant; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Bowers was predeceased by a son, Donald Bowers, and four sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 24, 2010, at Silverstreet Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Silverstreet Lutheran Church, 120 Long Street, Silverstreet, SC 29145.
