William Earl Nichols, only son of Frank E. and Anna Harris Nichols, was born June 10, 1883, in Red Oak, Ia. He departed this life on September 17, 1975, at the age of 92 years, three months and seven days.

He was united in marriage to Esther M. Schroeder on March 28, 1906. To this union were born three children: Everett E., Faye and Francis.

They farmed in the Nebraska communities of Greenwood, Alma, and Fairmont. In 1939 they moved to Atlantic, Ia., where William worked for an oil company. Upon retiring, he bought a home in Creston, Ia., living there until moving to Fairmont in November 1971.

William was a former member of the Methodist church in Atlantic, Ia. He was preceded in death by a son, Francis.

Surviving him are his wife, Esther M. of Fairview Manor; a son, Everett E. and wife of Fairmont; a daughter, Mrs. Gilbert (Faye) Scheef and husband of Fremont; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Barringer of Atlantic, Ia.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held September 19, 1975, at the Fairmont Community church. The Rev. Jay Schmidt officiated. Organist was Mrs. Nancy Jo Galusha. Vocalists were Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Swartz. Pallbearers were Gene Anderson, Jerry Galusha, Francis Jacobsen, Harry Kelch, Howard Lefler and Floyd Lott.
