Nichols, Alfred H., "Nicc", loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather lost his battle with cancer and embraced the loving arms of God on January 7, 2013.

Born to Alfred J. and Ada Nichols on June 4, 1920 in Novi, Michigan, Nicc proudly joined the Navy on February 7, 1941, 10 months to the day before Pearl Harbor. Nicc, a WWII vet, loved the Navy, especially the five years he spent on board the cruiser "The U.S.S. Nashville". On one occasion the cruiser "Nashville", was hit (midship) by a Japanese ‘suicide bomber'. It was then that the cruiser came back to the states (Bremerton) for much needed repairs. While in the Seattle area Nicc met his future wife, Patricia Mullins, who was working at The Port of Embarcation at the time. They were married March 2, 1946. Nicc retired from the U.S. Navy as Master Chief Petty Officer and later retired from Cowles Publishing Company.

Nicc is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia, four children, John (Penny) Spokane Valley, Dave (Renee) Indian Wells, CA, Colleen Simpson (Wes) Liberty Lake, Tom (Donna) Liberty Lake, eleven grandchildren, Susie, Shawna, Lori, Shelley, Kelly, Josh & Jeremy along with Aaron, Michael, Heather, Angi and eighteen beautiful great-grandchildren. His is survived by one brother, Walt, of New Haven, Ohio.

The family will be forever thankful to Hospice of Spokane & Tara Myers for the loving care and friendship they provided. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution can be made to Hospice of Spokane (P.O. Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210).

Visitation will be Friday, January 11, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Hennessey Funeral Home (2203 N. Division) followed by a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at Hennessey's.
