May Day Nichols
Shawnee resident May Day Nichols died Friday in Shawnee. She was 96.
She was born May 29, 1903, in Tecumseh to Thomas Jasper Day and Nellie May Owens.
She was raised on the family farm southeast of Tecumseh and lived in Shawnee since 1962. She worked as a nurse in Colorado, Washington and Alaska. She was a member of the First Indian Baptist Church.
Survivors include her brother, Houston Day, Los Alamos, N.M.; sister, Dee Drain, Tulsa; and a number of nieces and nephews, including Jim Day and Keith Mabry.
She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brothers and sisters, Ina Cash, Eddy Fain, Harvey "Gawk" Day, Tillis "Babe" Day and Butler Day.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cooper Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Anderson and the Rev. Gary Hawkins officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh.
