Our precious wife, momma, grandma and great-grandma started her new life as an angel in her mansion inside the pearly gates on streets of gold on Tuesday evening, November 26, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 84 years, 3 months, and 30 days.

Thelma was born July 27, 1929 to Jettie Thompson Nichols and Henry Olin Nichols, the oldest of her mother's seven children. She lived her entire life here in Shawnee, graduating from Shawnee High School in 1947. She met her husband, the handsome Bob Benton, while they were both working at the Country Club and they were married on January 17, 1948. They worked side by side for the rest of her life, owning several restaurants along the way including the Hamburger Castle and Benton's Café. She loved her customers like family and it gave her great joy to see their children and grandchildren coming in. That love kept her working until recently.

Thelma was a gifted artist as can be seen by her beautiful paintings and she had a great love of the written word. Her greatest passion was her family and over the years this family grew so her heart just grew bigger. At ball games across the state she became a fixture as she supported first her daughters then the grand and great grand children. She wasn't hard to find just listened for the loudest voice. She was the cornerstone of which we built our lives and we were blessed as few are.

Thelma was a member of Hill Top Baptist Church at the time of her death. She and Bob have previously been members of Oklahoma Avenue Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School in the primary departments for many, many years.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Don and Howard (Bud) Nichols, her sister-in-law Corky Nichols, and her precious daughter, Kristine Ann Benton Drummond.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Bob, daughters and spouses Nancy Wright, Diane Hogue and her husband Charley, Linda White, and Beth Hatley and her husband V.A., her grandchildren and spouses Sherry Wingfield, Jim and Vicky Wingfield, Genie and Robert Glasgow, Katie and Paul Goodman, Mark and Jennifer Drummond, Veronica Coolbaugh, Chuck Hogue, Michael and Ellen Hogue, Brian and Kristin White, Cindy and Damon Brindle, Doug White, Danny Hatley, and Josh Hatley, and her great-grandchildren Kaci, John, James, Jada, Kadyn, Madison, Mackenzie, Ryan, Kyndal, Chrystian, Chandler, Jason, Ryley, Nathan, Issac, Bradley, Kiera, Corali, Lyric, and Vincent.

In addition, Thelma leaves behind two sisters and two brothers and their spouses, Sue and Rick Dombrowski, Donna Fortune, Jim and Linda Johnson, and Carl and Ty Johnson, sister-in-laws Mary Lou Borts and Imogene Wilcox, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
