Jean N. Hanson, 78, of Naperville passed away Monday, April 25, 2005, at her home. She was born March 14, 1929, in Aberdeen, S.D., and was raised in Fremont, Neb.
She was a graduate of Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Neb., and considered learning and education a most noble goal and a primary purpose in life.
After graduating from MLC, she moved to Chicago. She married Herman Hanson in 1951. Jean and Herman eventually settled in Lisle to raise six children. She also worked as a dedicated teacher's aide. She was an avid bridge player and a member of the DuPage Symphony Orchestra, where her multiple music skills allowed her to play many instruments.
Through the years, Jean touched many lives and kept in touch with friends across the country. She was very active in Job's Daughters, Eastern Star, throughout her life.
Later in life, she worked in the travel agency field, and loved to travel herself. Jean was a very diverse person and was a very knowledgeable supporter of Nebraska University football.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen (husband Bruce) Hyland of Munster, Ind., Amy (husband Corky) Akins of Perrysburg, Ohio, Kristen Ostarello of Sugar Grove and Randi (husband Larry) Olsen of Courtland; a son, Kurt (wife Colleen) of Naperville; 11 grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Pam Hanson.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herman; her second husband, Ira; her son, Mark; a grandson, Mitchell; and a brother, Robert.
A graveside service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Friday, April 29, at Abraham Lincoln Cemetery in Elwood.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dodge County Historical Society, 1643 N. Nye Ave., Fremont, NE 68025.
Cremation Society of Illinois handled arrangements.
