Lilly Neves, Jan. 2, 1916 - May 10, 2012, resident of San Jose, passed away at home with the loving care of her blessed angel of 6 years, Merci Aviles. Lilly was born in Arbon, Switzerland to Josef Julius Baumgartner and Maria K. Bettenmann Baumgartner. Following the death of her father in the European influenza epidemic of 1918, she arrived in the United States in 1922 with her mother, stepfather, and, dear old sister, Mary. They settled in San Francisco until Lilly was 21, where she developed many life long friendships. At age 21, she married Edward Anthony Neves and moved to the Neves ranch on Homestead Road in Santa Clara. Lilly enjoyed cooking, canning, entertaining family and friends, gardening, living and raising her family on the ranch. Always active, she was a health clerk at Kaiser Santa Clara for 12 years before retiring. Lilly and Ed made many friends and had great fun folk dancing, square dancing, and, golfing. Avid travelers, they were in many countries throughout the world often including native Switzerland. Beloved wife of the late Edward A. Neves and loving mother to Edward J. Neves and Mary Castle Braley. Devoted to 8 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and, 1 great-great grandchild. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012, 1:00 PM, at St. John Vianney Church, 4600 Hyland Ave., San Jose.
