Audrey Idella Guthrie Nettles was born July 22,1921 four miles west of Lexington and was the youngest child of Charlie H. and Rosa Mathis Guthrie. She was a life long resident of the Lexington area. On Dec. 7,1938 she married Joseph McLarty Nettles in the Lexington home of Rev. O.J. Morgan. They had four children.
From 1942 to 1948 she owned Audrey's Cafe in downtown Lexington and then operated the Auction Barn Cafe in Lexington from 1961 to 1968. She then worked from 1968 to 1975 in the cafeteria at Lexington ISD. She was well known as a great cook. She also canned vegetables from the garden and made homemade jams and jellies. She loved flowers with lots of color, especially roses. Her hobbies included fishing,forty-two dominoes and canasta.
Audrey passed away on July 5,2006 in Giddings,Tx. at the age of 85.
