Spouse of Dorothy Goebel Nedrow.
James "Jim" Roland Nedrow, 90, of Ashton, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at his home within one mile of his birthplace.

Jim was born in Ora District in Fremont County, near Ashton, on Oct. 25, 1921. He attended the Ora School and graduated from Ashton High School in 1938. After graduating, he helped his father on the farm until Sept. 9, 1941, when he married the love of his life, Dorothy Goebel. In 1942, they bought land, which included their present home, from his father. Together they built the farm, clearing it of sagebrush and chokecherries, and putting the land under irrigation. They ran and expanded the farm until 1984, when ill health forced retirement. Since then, they have enjoyed gardening and his many other hobbies.

Jim was a lifelong member of the Ashton Community United Methodist Church. He served on the board of trustees and as a lay leader for a time. He was a very active member of the Fremont County Farm Bureau. He served on the Farmer's Own Ditch Company board of directors for several years. He won the Fremont County Grassman of the Year award in 1964. He was a longtime member of the Ashton lodge of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, where he held all of the offices at one time or another. He and Dorothy led 4-H clubs for their children and neighbor's children. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family until health problems interfered. He taught himself to play various musical instruments by ear and enjoyed playing music with friends. He and Dorothy belonged to several different square dance clubs over 55 years and made many lifelong friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy; and his three children, Dick (Mary) Nedrow, Judy (Steve) Sullivan and John (Sheila) Nedrow. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Mike, Shawna, Bret, Stefany, Jodi, Greg and Scott; seven great-grandchildren, Kevin, Chloe, Hayden, Kylie, Dylan, Ashton and Logan; and a sister, Carol Marotz Comstock.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at the Ashton Community United Methodist Church.
