More than a century ago, Wesley Nall located on a farm at Elk Creek. Six children were born in this home and reared on the same farm, as was the custom of the day. A family burial plot was set aside on the farm and the immediate family have found their resting places in this family plot. Today Aunt Sarah will take up her abode in this silent city of the dead on the farm where she was born almost ninety-one years ago.
Her father was a pioneer Methodist minister and early in life, Sarah confessed Christ as her Savior and united with the Methodist church at Elk Creek.
She was united in marriage to Austin Grisham, October 28, 1877, and of this union there were four sons. She and her husband enjoyed some fifty-five years of life together and on November 24, 1932, he was called to his eternal reward. His going changed all of life for her. Perhaps since then she has been looking forward to this call to join him.
They also established their home at Elk Creek and it is yet one of the landmarks. It will be many years before people will cease to refer to it as the Austin Grisham farm. Sarah and Austin, in later years, placed their church membership in the old Chapel Hill Church, which, too, has held a place of reverence in the hearts of many people.
Sarah enjoyed life in her own quiet way, seldom borrowing trouble, just living day by day. She enjoyed reading, prayed much, and read her Bible a great deal, and of her it has often been said by many that she never said a harmful word of anyone.
She leaves the following immediate family: L.L. Grisham, Elk Creek; R.B. Grisham, Cabool; one son died in infancy and another son, John Wesley, preceded her a short time ago. There are eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren and many, many friends.
Funeral services were held at Steely Chapel, Elk Creek, with Mrs. Sadie Miles officiating and being assisted by Rev. Orville Haines. Interment is in the old Nall Family Cemetery, Elk Creek.
Pallbearers were Paul Grisham (son of Richard B.), Wayne Grisham (son of Luther L.), Austin Grisham (son of John Wesley) Raymond Grisham (son of John W.), Ernest Skirvin (son-in-law of Richard B.) and Walter Beeler (son-in-law of John W.).
Music was rendered by the Elk Creek Choir with a special vocal solo by Wayne Grisham.
