Carolina Balz Plymouth Post November 2, 1899

Kiel—Mrs. Nicholaus Balz, one of the oldest settlers in Town Schleswig, died yesterday of old age weakness. She will be buried Tuesday on the Rockville Cemetery. The deceased reached the age of 74 years. Besides her husband she is survived by 2 sons and 3 daughters. The oldest son is Nic. Balz who has a saloon in Kiel.

Last Saturday afternoon, at her home in Town Schleswig, Mrs. Carolina Balz, the wife of Mr. Nic. Balz Sr. died at the age of not quite 64 years. The deceased came to America about 50 years ago and first settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and there she married her now surviving husband. About 40 years ago they came to Town Schleswig where she has lived on the land of her husband until her death. The marriage was blessed with seven children (three sons and four daughters), one of which, William has died. The surviving children are; Nicolaus who owns an inn on lower Fremont Street, John who is working the farm, Mrs. F. Fluhr, Mrs. John Boege, Mrs. August Schnuelle and Miss Elisa Balz. The burial took place on Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the Rockville Cemetery with Rev. Schildknecht from New Holstein officiating.
