ALTAMONT - Eldon H. "Buzz" Myers, 84, of Altamont, passed away at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 10, 2001 at the Labette County Medical Center.
He was born April 17, 1917 to C.E. and Clara (Hallet) Myers of rural Mound Valley. He married Delma A. Hucke, October 5, 1940 at Mound Valley. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2001.
He graduated from Mound Valley High School. He was a farmer and stockman. He managed the Dennis Coop for 10 years, retiring in 1982. He farmed in rural Cherryvale 57 years and then moved to Altamont 3 1/2 years ago. He was an ASCS Committee member for years, a LCMC board member, served on the Mound Valley Coop Board, the Hillcrest School Board, and the Mound Valley Booster CLub. He played softball in Mound Valley and Cherryvale until he was in his 40's. He received several Soil Conservation awards. He was a member of the Mound Valley Pinochle Club and a neighborhood Pitch Club. He was a member of the Mound Valley Christian Churhc.
Survivors include one son, Bobby Ray Myers of rural Cherryvale; one daughter, Donna Reed of Altamont; 3 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Lowell.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 13, 2001, at the Mound Valley Christian Church with Reverend Kevin Mote officiating, with burial to follow in the Mound Valley cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Bath Funeral Home of Altamont. The casket will be closed Wednesday evening after visitation and will not be re-opened at the church. In lieu of flowers and food, the family suggests memorials to be given to the Labette County High School Athletic Department and may be left or mailed to the Bath Funeral Home of Altamont.
